INSTRUCTION
MIB :

PROJECT 1 : Formatting text
08/05/2020 (week 4)

For this project, we need to create article and a headline for our InDesign document, the page size given to us is 200mm x 200mm. we must create pages with column and margin. I have created 4 pages with two columns, and margins of 10mm. After that, I watch a video that Mr Vinod has posted for us in case we are not sure how to create our document. I selected all the pages in the "pages" panel and turn off "allow selected pages to shuffle". Then, I can start my formatting text project.

Week 5 : (15/05/2020)
Sketching :
figure 1. sketching
The content and title is different from what Mr Vinod has given us because I got this content from google, but after I got my feedback, Mr Vinod says we are also allow to use other content for this project but make sure that there is not too many words and the title is expressed well. Other than that, no pictures are allowed. So I've decided to create a new layout with the content that given by Mr Vinod.

Week 6 :
After I got my sketching, I start to design my headline in Illustrator. Before that, I have created the layout with the headline of "How to train yourself to think new ways" but I have changed it at the end, I decided to use the content that given by Mr Vinod. The figure below is the design of my headline in Adobe Illustrator.
figure 2, designing headline in Illustrator

figure 3, first layout
I tried to emphasis the word "Bauhaus" to make it bold and create it in a shape of house. Mr Vinod says the shapes of the house is not what it means. So I have to do more research on it and understand what it means.

figure 4, second layout
This is the simplest one out of the four layouts. I'm kind of a person that prefer simple style and I just keep everything simple in this layout, a simple title but emphasis the word "Bauhaus". However, I found out that its actually didn't express too much and Mr Vinod also says the expression of the headline is important. For this project we have to do is to express a body text typographically and to design a type expression for the headline of the article we choose. Some minor graphical elements can be used in the headline type expression.

figure 5, third layout
I make them cross to each other to make it looks modern, plain , straight forward and easy to read.

figure 6, fourth layout
I think it looks nice to have the headline at the middle to separate it. However, Mr Vinod says it is not recommended to place text in the gutter in between two pages.

After changes :
After I got the feedback from Mr Vinod, he says it is not recommended to place text in the gutter in between two pages. So, I decided to move my headline into one page.

I choose this one as my final because this one is more tidy compare to another one.

FEEDBACK

Week 5 : (15/05/2020)
Specific feedback : No feedback is given.

General feedback : No feedback is given.

Week 6 : (22/05/2020)
Specific feedback : I am allow to use my own content but too many words and no picture are allowed.

General feedback : Overall is nice looking, but did not express the headline. If I want to use my own content, make sure the headline expressed well.

Week 7 : (29/05/2020)
Specific feedback : It is not recommended to place text in the gutter in between two pages. That's why there is a margin there. For the second layout, Mr Vinod suggest that to maintain two columns of text in one pages is better.

General feedback : No general feedback is given.

Week 8 : Submission (05/06/2020)

REFLECTION

Week 5 : (15/05/2020)
Experience : I tried to sketch out my project layout to see which one looks nicer. After that, I open my InDesign and start my work but I have no idea of how to create two pages together and how to rotate my words but luckily, Mr Vinod uploaded a video as a guidance in case we don't know how to do. The video really helps me in my work.

Observation : The project is not really hard for me since we have done our formatting exercise. So I probably have a concept about it.

Findings : Need to be very careful while designing the headline because if its too big or too small, you will need to arrange the space for your paragraph..

Week 6 : (22/05/2020)
Experience : At first, I created three different layouts with my own content because I don't know Mr Vinod has given us the content. Honestly, I have pay attention during the class, maybe I didn't hear it or I misunderstood something. But Mr Vinod says that we are allow to use our own content but make sure we express it well and not too many words. In order to not create unnecessary trouble for myself, I decided to create new layout with the content that given by Mr Vinod.

Observation : Have to be alert.

Findings : Need to always open and check Facebook to see if there is anything has been posted to make sure I wont miss something.

Week 7 : (29/05/2020)
Experience : After I created the new layouts I send it to Mr Vinod to consult it. He says the first layout doesn't express well. I'm also agree with it because it's too simple and just emphasis the word "Bauhaus". The second layout is in the shape of a house but that's not what it means. So I have to do more research about it and read the article to understand what it means then only I can create a headline that really express the word.

After the feedback, I decided to redo everything. So I created two new layouts again and then send it to Mr Vinod. He says it is not recommended to place text in the gutter between two pages. So I need to edit my layout to place it aside.

Observation : It is tired to redo everything, but in order to create good work, I must put effort on it.

Findings : Need to be more alert during class so that I wont make the same mistakes again.

Week 8 : Submission (05/06/2020)
